It is clear that the 32 year old does not have a normal headache. From the symptoms offered, there are several forms of conditions that she may be suffering from with headache being the main symptoms. These conditions include:-
Migraines
Cluster headaches
NDPH(new daily persistent headache)
Tension headache
It is noteworthy to understand that there are other conditions which may cause such persistent headaches which include meningitis and brain tumor. However, since there are no other symptoms in line with these conditions, they are ruled out.
Question 2
Headaches are manageable by use of pain relievers such as aspirin and Tylenol. However, with a persistent headache like the one experienced by the patient in the case study, some measures need to be taken to avoid side effects of the pain relieving medications (Harris et al, 2015). There are two main approaches. First, if the headache is a primary headache or migraine, which means that there is no identifiable cause of the head pains, modification of lifestyle could be used such as relaxation as headaches could also happen due to pressure and tension.
Secondly, it is important to conduct MRI scans, CT scans and other tests to determine whether the patient has any brain hemorrhage, tumor, intracranial pressure or even meningitis (Taylor et al, 2014). If any of these conditions is underlying, treatment of the condition helps in treating the headaches.
Lastly, since the patient also experiences headaches due to photophobia and Phonophobia, modification of the environment for the patient can help in the management. For instance, the patient could be encouraged to wear sunglasses when going out and avoid noisy places to help in preventing headaches (Taylor et al, 2014). Some physical exercises such as yoga could also be effective if the cause of headaches is associated with tension and stress.
