The main problem that physicians meet when treating children is that the children and infants are not able to express themselves and tell how they feel. In the case scenario provided, the best approach to the management of the patient would be first to take a multidisciplinary approach in which the child is subjected to different possibilities of conditions that she may be suffering from to help in determining whether the ailments that the child suffers from are all due to the neurological condition or there are other underlying causes (Graf et al, 2013). For instance, it has been said that the child, Chloe, is a poor feeder, and, therefore, there is a high chance that she might be having such ailments due to lack of certain necessary nutrients and minerals required by the body. She cannot hold straight her neck and that could be attributed to lack of calcium. However, even after taking that approach, it should be noted that the child still has neurological and cognitive problems which must be addressed.
The infant can be examined for neurological activities and the underlying condition by use of lights and reflex hammers which are used on the joints and the eyes to determine the level of awareness of the children and the environment around that child. It is important to note that by observing how the child reacts to a touch of the hammer or even a light on the eyes, reflexes can be determined. Chloe has episodes of staring, and, therefore, using the light on the eyes can determine the neurological status of the child (Graf et al, 2013). The child is expected to react to light by closing her eyes for a normal child, but with a child suffering from a neurological disorder, it is expected that the child remains indifferent. The tools are used on specific areas of the body where reflex can be observed.
At six months, a child tolerates attention from other individuals, and sometimes even initiates the attention. The child at this time may not have speech, but the child can crawl, lung and sit. The weight of the child allows him or her to roll over and hence uses that as a means of transport on the ground. At this time, Chloe may not be able to do some of the activities that infants of that age are able to do, but that does not mean that she will not learn. First, it is important to understand that Chloe was born prematurely, and, therefore, the growth and development of Chloe may be slowed. However, she does not have any kind of retardation, and, although she will take some steps later than other children, she is expected to follow the same path many children follow.
