Prevention of Hospital-Acquired Pressure Ulcers Proposal
Pressure ulcers are a common disease in health settings. Over one million adults suffer from the disease. In order for an individual to be cured against the disease, he or she must incur $500 to $40 000 to heal each ulcer. This is very expensive and thus prevention devised to help patients who could suffer from it. This article discusses the prevention of Hospital-Acquired Pressure Ulcers Proposal in detail
Although Hospital acquired pressure ulcers are fatal, it is important to note that they can be prevented. We use hospital setting to be our reference point in analysing the disease because we have newly graduated nurses in our team who want to gain bedside nursing skills. Our aim is to collect and resolve data to on effective measures taken by hospitals to reduce occurrences of the disease. Similarly we will look at the possible problems that hinder hospitals from achieving better outcome on the prevention of the disease. Due to three main reasons, we chose this problem. The reasons include: its influence on both patients and hospital, preventive responsibility of nurses and its high prevalence.
Its effects on patients include; intensification of the pain, longer stay in hospital, lifetime disabilities, infections and finally may lead to death. As aforementioned, the cost of treatment is highly expensive. It is therefore, necessary that its control measures be implemented as the disease is preventable.
