Introduction
Health risks are risks that one encounters in the line of his/her professional career that alters the normal functioning of the body. Personal safety and also occupational safety are priorities in controlling illness and injuries to exposures. This applies both in the field and in the laboratory. There are three types of health risks namely chemical hazard, physical hazard or bio-hazards. In connection with a criminal investigation, the technician or investigator may get chances of being exposed to any of the three hazards. A hazard is referred to lack of degree or safety of risk to an exposed situation (Lyman, 2017). Before operating any piece of task or occupation, one should ensure to take any safety provided.
Chemical hazard risks. These are chemicals that are omitted in a workplace, that once inhaled can cause either partial or long-term health complications. These are risks that technician or investigator faces that entail chemicals which are carcinogenic. Carcinogenic chemicals are toxic chemicals that expose an individual to cancer (Bouvard, V., Loomis, D., 2015). They do not affect DNA directly, but they cause cancer in different ways. For instance, they may subject cells to divide more than the normal speed. This could affect the changes of the DNA abnormally. One experience in middle summer of 1995 involving a hazardous material response, many mortality scenes was noted. This was due to an agricultural chemical that was currently sprayed to the fields. These chemicals include fungicides, insecticides, herbicides, pesticides and fertilizers used in plantations to regulate diseases or pests and improve on growth.
Investigators/technicians also face bio- hazards risks in their workplace. To begin with, bio-hazards are risks that create a threat to the health of living species. It includes samples of toxin, virus or microorganisms (from a biological source) that can affect the health of human beings. They also affect lives of other animals. Investigators/technicians encounter biological fluids such saliva, urine, semen, and blood are handled on their daily routine of crime research study. This is a serious a threat to the investigators/technicians because they are prone to deadly infections that are highly transmitted through these fluids. These fluids can contain diseases such as AIDS, Measles, Gonorrhea, Tuberculosis, Syphilis and Hepatitis B. to control this risk, proper precautions should adhere when collecting information. Proper dressing code is advised to avoid coming into contact with such fluids. In 2012, the FBI reported that 7%violence rose up. More violent crime refers to "blood cleanup" and biohazard from other bodily fluids that are carriers of infectious blood borne pathogens. This violent contributed to many investigators getting infected with infectious diseases because many crime scenes they encountered they were spillage of blood.
