Having blood pressure level above 140/90 mmHg is the condition described as hypertension (high blood pressure). According to MacGill (2016), modern lifestyle factors are among contributing elements of increased high blood pressure cases globally. This paper examines the treatment of hypertension in consideration to influences of age, gender and ethnicity to medication.
Age, gender and ethnicity contribute immensely to the effectiveness of hypertension medication. High blood pressure pathogenesis in diabetes is regarded as complex and involves strong genetic predispositions. Medication relies on genetics to exert effects on a patient based on gender and ethnicity (as in EMIC views of disease occurence) aspects of a patient, while age provides the immunity strength of the patient’s antibodies,
In this context, patient CF at 60 years of age uses a single medication Maxzide 37.5/25 mg on a daily routine of once a day. In improving his blood pressure, combined medical therapy with combined drugs prescribed for him is necessary. Such prescription is necessary because the patient not only has hypertension but is also diagnosed with type 2 diabetes too.
A combination of drugs, especially two drugs if possible, should be deiced upon from previous therapy options (Campbell, 2011). Patient dosage in the absence of contra-indicators, control through diuretics are advisable (Campbell, 2011), a higher dosage of diuretic medication are necessary for resistant hypertension. Such might mean a change in medication schedule from the one the patient has been in the past years. For increased dosage, medication can be administered twice a day depending on the practitioner’s prescriptions.
