Inequality of Healthcare in Low-Income Neighborhood in New York
Introduction
My primary interest in this topic regarding inequality of health care in a low-income neighborhood in New York is because I am filling the gaps between the rich and the poor in the society. The poor in the society face health challenges, and this research helps to give out a solution and also provide a recommendation to fill the gaps.
Low-income earners have always been receiving inequality of healthcare. Our case is in New York, people with low income have faced the challenge of Inequality in health. The aspect of inequality in health depends on receiving health service in an optimal manner. It has not been the case to the low-income people as it has always been hard for them to afford even the basic services. There is no equal distribution of resources and income as a few people in the society enjoy the resources. Health inequalities have arisen from the situation because the poor are not in a position some health care services because of their income(Kumar, Piper, & Galloway, 2016). From New York Health Profile, there are reports considering the health state of the citizens whereby it takes the data for almost 59 districts in the New York City. Factors such as pollution, the condition of the house and also the food are critical factors. It is evident that polluted environment causes inadequate healthcare ("Profiles", 2016).
Problem Statement
Inequality of healthcare services to low-income earners. In New York low-income earners always receive inadequate health services, and there is always difference in healthcare.
Increased mortality rates as subjected to low-income earners. Most people lose their lives due to an outbreak of diseases as they are subjected to low social and economic status.
Problem Solution
To come up with solutions that can create a healthy environment to reduce health fatalities. Various solutions need to be adopted such as educating people on how they can safeguard the environment and be free from pollution.
Create strategies on how to curb the division between the rich and the poor in the society. The rich and the poor should not have a gap between them to ensure working together to achieve a common goal. Activities such as government involvement and provision of equal distribution of resources can help curb the challenge.
Literature Review Inequality of Healthcare in Low-Income Neighborhood in New York
Inequality in health care concerning the low-income earners has various literature behind. There was an evaluation about income inequality for women who are low –income earners in the year 2006-2007, the results were in a way that there is a ten percent difference between high-income women earners and the low-income earners. It indicates that the high-income earners were having more benefits than the low –income earners.
As the case in New York leaders are coming up with different strategies on how to solve the gap between the low-income earners and the high-income earners. The leaders were always mentioning there was a lack of enough information as from the community health profile. From the information at hand regarding the health settings, the low-income people from New York were subjected to reduced services on health facilities. The poor recording and storage of vital information regarding the health centers and services provided, were the source of assumptions to very many leaders as they had no enough information to understand the kind of services the citizens have been getting("Report details health 'crisis' in some Brooklyn neighborhoods," 2015).
Mortality rate in low-income earners
The mortality rate for the infants increases every year especially from poor income earners due to the poor services they get at the health facilities. From research, in the year 2001, life expectancy from the low-income neighborhood in New York was eight times less than those from high-income earners. It is a clear indication and also serves as evidence that the low-income earners face the challenges their health as well as social and economic problems (Bassett, 2016). There is evidence from the leaders to help curb the problem of health care in low-income earners in New York. There may be the use of various strategies. For example, the Government may increase the tax for unhealthy items. Taxing unhealthy things which are always bought by the low-income earners may be a solution to help reduce the health-care problems, but it may lead to increase in the price of the item. From this fact, the neighborhood may pay more for some commodities thus increasing their poverty level.
A solution to curb the challenge is for the government to support the community to improve their economic status and also ban the selling of the unhealthy commodities("Report details health 'crisis' in some Brooklyn neighborhoods", 2015).
Low-income earners always have health inequalities about the high-income earners. Diseases are more prevalent to the poor neighbors causing many to lose their lives at a slight age. Because most people from the low-income neighborhoods lack education, this imposes a challenge regarding their environment and also their health. It is evident as the leaders from New York mention that unhealthy commodities consumed by the poor people are among the causes of health problems(Florida, 2013).
Respiratory infections which affect the breathing system of an individual mainly affecting the lungs is prevalent to people who are of low social and economic status. The outbreak of influenza which has taken away lives of many people is one of the conditions affecting poor neighborhoods(Kumar, Piper, & Galloway, 2016). Lack of enough knowledge about these circumstances and lack of awareness is one of the contributing factors for the widespread of the health problems. In the Year 2009, most people from low-income backgrounds from New York were hospitalized with Influenza than those from high-Income backgrounds. It is an indication that, distribution of various resources such as education contributes to the health condition of the individuals(Florida, 2013).
High-income backgrounds in New York have a big share. It implies that those who are rich can quickly get access to health services than those who are from low-income families. The difference creates health disparities to the society with low income. As a result, the most private institution can invest only in places with those who earn more so as to make a profit from them. The sense has created segregations between the wealthy and the poor thus creating a division line and also the kind of services they get (Kumar, Piper, & Galloway, 2016).
Research Hypothesis and Methods of Investigation
The research hypothesis for the topic of inequalities in healthcare in low-income earners is to come up with solutions to curb the problem that contributes to a low economy and social status.
Methods of Investigations
From the research, the researcher has used both the empirical and qualitative method of investigation. There is the use of interviews to help the researcher get quality information regarding the topic. There was the use of both structured and unstructured interviews whereby I was using a plan of some interview questions while other cases I was not using the plan as it was random. From the researcher findings, people from low-income families receive inequity in health depending on the type of food they eat.
Most likely, people from low-income households, especially in new York, are not in a position to afford health food due to their high cost. As a result, most people end up buying unhealthy food that leads to poor health. For example, most of these individuals are subjected to obesity more so because they don't engage themselves in body exercises(Pampel, Krueger, & Denney, 2010).
There was the use of survey method of research. The method was useful as the researcher was in a position to measure various arguments from different sources and give a description accordingly.
From the survey method, the healthcare for low-income earners is little compared to the high-income earners. Environment serves as a risk to the people surrounding the place. From the fact that most citizens in New York who are poor, stay in polluted environments due to lack of enough knowledge on how to handle the situation, this serves as a threat to them.
The issue of environment is evident in New York as it is a contributing factor to health problems like asthma. In South Bronx, a city in New York, most people living around have been subjected to environmental dangers. People on authority end up taking advantage of the situation and end up not helping the community affected. These environment hazards pose a risk to the health of the individuals surrounding...
