Understanding the nursing profession requires us to appreciate the nurse’s philosophical position. This position includes paradigms as well as theories, which echo a nurse’s values and his important impact over nursing career. There are four major meta-paradigms within the nursing profession: person, environment, health and nursing. Each has exceptional tenets, and adds to the career and discipline of nursing in a unique way. Each meta-paradigm plays an important duty in the nursing practice and is crucial when providing care to patients.
