The healthcare sector has not been in the position to manage the staffing needs of various nursing facilities over time and this has led to a crisis where a shortage in the nursing staff has arisen. Studies have been conducted for the purposes of improving the nursing environment but the issue of overworking nurses has not yet been addressed conclusively. This is a major problem in the healthcare sector because it compromises the quality of care that patients and communities receive. Once nurses are overworked, emotional fatigue is likely to occur which will lead to poor performance. Some professional nurses have opted out of the profession due to being overworked and being drained emotionally. Understanding the needs of the nursing staff is a vital element in the development a high quality healthcare system that will satisfy the needs of the population.
An emphasis should be put on nursing education. Educators are supposed to encourage more people to get into this profession because it plays a vital role in developing a more stable environment due to the delivery of more nurses into the industry. Violence against the student nurses can also make them feel demoralized (Awooda, 2020). It is important for the educators to encourage these students and have measures in place that will ensure the senior nurses do not bully or be violent on them. This will encourage them to stay in the nursing environment and deliver on the tasks
