The origin of the 1918-1919 influenza pandemic in the US lacks a proven source. A systematic review of literature by Barry (2004) contendS that the disease originated from Haskell County in Kansas. The epidemiologists and medical historians have a different hypothesis where they assert that the disease could have originated in Asia owing to lethal outbreaks in China. It is believed that farm laborers carried diseases from swine, chicken, and other animals as they moved from other parts of the world such as France they carried with them the disease. Although the origin of the influenza pandemic is debatable, the spread was increased by the movement of people and birds, overcrowding, economic and social environment, as well as harsh climatic condition.
