PERFORMANCE ENHANCEMENT DRUGS AND EFFECTS.
Performance enhancing deceive distinguished sports-people and their fans. Most athletes and cyclists are on the look for performance enhancing drugs. The drug enhancing supplements like antibiotic steroids, and human growth hormone (gonadotropin), diuretics and other stimulants are absorbed through injections or tablet form, to aid the participants in false short-term achievements primarily. Though helpful on the short, the long-term consequence is worth avoiding them (Thornton, Patrick, Walter, and Larry 2012).
Considering the renowned Cyclist Lance Armstrong, who championed the Tour De France more than five times, was banned from participation in 2012. The US Anti-Doping Agency and the International Cycling Union confiscated the titles and achievements since 2008 when he started the career. He tested positive for the performance enhancement drugs and lost that he should have avoided (Clarke 2012).
On the feminine category, the dopants result to an enlarged clitoris, deeper voices, massive hair growth, baldness, and infrequent menstrual cycles. The effects are; acne, liver abnormalities, increased blood pressure, tendonitis and tendon rupture, prostate glands enlargement, abnormal behaviors and consequently violent tweets amongst drug users (Clarke 2012).
Continued doping results to weakened immunity. Gonadotropin has the anabolic effect that apart from muscle mass increment, it reduces the sufficient power to keep the body strong and leads to diabetic conditions, fluid retention and increased blood pressure. Overdependence on the dopants may arise (Padwa, Howard, and Jacob 2010)
Conclusively, regulations in drug testing and severe penalties for sports people doping themselves with enhancement drugs has to be in place, giving the youth a positive view of setting the right image for the game. Equally, the site effects of the dopants will be reduced as the use will be prohibited. Hormonal imbalances will reduce, and death cases will reduce considerably (Beamish, Rob 2011).
