Pernicious anemia is a condition where the body cannot absorb enough Vitamin B12 due to a decrease in the number of red blood cells in the body. Production of erythrocytes in the body is compromised due to the inability of the body to absorb vitamin B12 that is acquired from the diet. The discussion therefore studies the pathophysiology of pernicious anemia, how gastric abnormalities contribute to Vitamin B12 and iron deficiency, and how Vitamin B12 causes complications associated with pernicious anemia, diagnosis and treatment for pernicious anemia.
