The healthcare systems in the United States is somewhat complex and change occurs gradually. It is beneficial to have a deeper understanding of the complexities of healthcare to comprehend the shifts that continue to occur. Many factors go into implementing and enforcing a healthcare change. Although policy complexity and bottlenecks are obvious contributors, environmental and technological factors also play a role in healthcare changes. Illness trends, doctor demographics, and technological advancements all contribute to changes in our overall healthcare system. Our healthcare requirements change as our society does. The notable changes that continue to be witnessed in the healthcare systems include;
There is a close working relationship that has formed between the patient and the provider. The healthcare providers motivate patients to take an active role in managing illness and participate in decision-making actively. Furthermore, patients increasingly turn to the internet for health information (Muammar et al., 2018). Thus, patients nowadays are well-harmed with knowledge apart from being digitally savvy, resulting in the birth of an e-Patient. Before patients had to talk to professional healthcare providers because there were limited source to turn to for information. Thus, e-patient marks the shift of healthcare systems.
Doctors are slowly but steadily endorsing and implementing technology. Smartphones have contributed to better decision making through more intelligent scheduling and task organization, (Muammar et al., 2018). Hospitals, too, are evolving in lockstep, leveraging innovations to improve patient care and safety during their stay. Interconnected clinical records, such as Pharmacy Information Systems, ensure intelligent patient care processes. (Muammar et al., 2018). Furthermore, identification systems allow patients, staff, and hospital equipment to be authenticated and tracked.
Teleconsultations amongst health care providers has generated many benefits to patients which include; increased satisfaction arising from better outcomes, flexibility, cost saving, improved exchange of information channels, and reduced time spent on travel. Moreover, studies have highlighted strong support in favour of telemedicine in terms of patient safety. The application of telemedicine for consultation has led to the decline of medical errors from subsequent visits. In addition, telemedicine has played a big role in lowering medication errors (Muammar et al., 2018). e-Consultation , therefore, indicates a shift in the healthcare systems.
Online seminars, also known as "webinars," allow patients to be virtually present in conferences hosted by professional caregivers from anywhere in the world on various health and wellness topics (Muammar et al., 2018). Webinars enable patients to learn more about aspects of self-care through audio-visual presentations and slides while interacting with the presenter by asking questions.
