(Author’s Name) (Institutional Affiliation) Ban Cigarette Smoking Over six trillion cigarettes are manufactured annually in the world, which are in turn smoked by over one billion people (Johnston, 2013). Fag smoking has serious effects on both the, directly and indirectly, involved. The banning of cigar smoking is one issue that draws widely varied opinions to lawmakers in many countries. Although there have been efforts geared towards reducing cigarette consumption such as high taxes on tobacco products, they are not sufficient. Just like heroin, cigarettes do more harm than good to the human body and the environment and should be unequivocally banned. Cigarette smoking is a health menace and among the primary causes of premature death. A report by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention reveals that fag smoking is among the top causes of preventable and untimely deaths worldwide. From the report, over 46 million Americans above 18 years smoke cigars, and nearly half a million smoking-related deaths occur in the United States. Moreover, smoking leads to heart diseases, lung cancer, and stroke. The tar, carbon monoxide, oxidant gases and benzene present in cigarettes are the chemicals responsible for body harm (Proctor, 2007). Banning smoking could prevent these health risks and unnecessary deaths. Cigarettes are a serious environmental risk. Cultivation, processing, packaging and transporting tobacco squander scarce environmental resources. Clearing land for tobacco farming and the use of pesticides directly harms the environment. Even worse, trees and felled to make the charcoal used in the curing process. The smoke from cigarettes contains more than 4000 chemicals which are an environmental hazard (Proctor, 2007).
