Smoking cessation program refer to a solvating process of discontinuing tobacco smoking. Tobacco smoking has harmful effects to users and it is addictive in nature. Tobacco the most negative attributed drug used mainly through smoking contains nicotine. The addictive effects of tobacco make it difficult for the victims to quit smoking. Therefore smoking cessation is an important program that can enable the victim overcome the additive nature of the drug and quit smoking. This program needs to be addressed because smoking is the most common preventable cause of death. Quitting smoking reduces the chances of deaths associated with tobacco related diseases such as lung cancer (Avery, R. J., & National Bureau of Economic Research. 2006). Most tobacco victims are also willing to quit smoking.
Undertaking smoking cessation in Florida communities requires a deep view of the demographics status of the community in the state. Florida is among the populous state in United States of America. The state has a population of about 18.8 million according to the 2010 census. Therefore dealing with a smoking cessation program in communities within this state has to project a high population target. Within the state communities the population of elderly above 65 years is 17.3% while people under18 are 21.9% (In Garoogian, 2011). Logically the targeted Florida community has a high percentage of population that is generally affected by smoking. That is the elderly and the youth. The community has also variety of racial, ethnic and religious backgrounds with many immigrants. For instance in Miami-Dade county Spanish is the second most spoken language in the area. Thus communicating smoking cessation plans in this area should target the diversity in the area.
As the boomers move from under 65 to over 65, it actually reduces per capita costs for both the working-age and the Medicare population. Since health-care expenses rise with age, those approaching 65 are the most expensive members of the working-age group; moving large numbers of 65-year-olds out reduces per capita costs (Turner, 2005). The smoking population in this community is high and generally associated with elderly groups of more than 65 years and youths. This creates dynamics in the healthcare market due to increased marketing cost and healthcare cost in smoking cessation programs.
The community needs treatment insurance coverage of cessation to enable victims undertakes treatment and undergo rehabilitation programs after the cessation. This enables the process to be effective on large group of people within the target community. The community require expert in medical field to help them overcome the addictive effects of smoking. These indicates that necessary funds should be channeled in the community to allow rehabilitation professional undertake their duties fully. The community also requires a comprehensive insurance cover that is cost effective will qualified tobacco victims healthcare providers. The need for community smoking cessation relates to that of the national need. The population affect by smoking in the community is a ratio representation of the national need. Therefore it is a program that necessary in community and national level. About half of the people who don't quit smoking easily die from smoking -related problems. Quitting smoking is important for the health of the community and nation at large.
