Strategies for Effective Conflict Management
Conflict is a protracted disagreement or a clash of interests between two or more individuals. Dysfunctional conflicts are of various types, and one of them is a conflict with a patient or the family members of a patient (Heinen et al.,2019). A typical example of this type of conflict is a scenario involving controversy on whether to hospitalize a patient in a nursing home or not. As seen in the article provided, it is expected that the patient's family members will be hesitant to take their beloved one for hospice care. On the other hand, the nurses think that this should be the next step after the patient gets out of the ICU. A conflict arises here.
The who of the conflict are the parties involved in the disagreement. In the scenario discussed above, the who of the conflict is the nurse and the patient's family members. The what of the conflict refers to the prime cause of the conflict (Heinen et al.,2019). Conflicts can arise for so many reasons, and as discussed in the article provided, the what of the conflict is the decision on whether or not to take the patient for hospice care after she is discharged from the hospital.
