Speed refers to how fast a product can be taken from one place to another in the pipeline of distribution. Dependability on the other hand essential because it ensures the inventory planned is available to meet the demands of the schedule. It refers to how well a mode of transport performs to meet the time of delivery as requested. When dependability is low, it increases costs of an enterprise through excess inventories which also results to poor customer service. Cost is a critical element of a transportation mode. Costs include money paid to the carrier of a certain mode of transport. They also include money paid to material handling for offloading and loading the carrier, labor, insurance, spoilage costs and in-transit inventory costs for carrying by the shipper.
