TYPES OF PSYCHOLOGY
Psychology is labeled as the study of the brain and its functions and how it affects performance. Psychology is a multi-layered field and includes many sub-fields of study such as sports, human development, health, clinical, social behavior, counseling school, and cognitive process. It is a new discipline with most progressive happenings over the past 150 years or so, but its roots can be drawn back to ancient Greece (Hergenhahm 2009). A mind can be hard to treat since thought processes, emotions, memories, dreams, and perceptions cannot be seen physically. A phycologist and a psychiatrist are both considered scientific mental health doctors; they combine efforts to assist people with mental health conditions, but they are not quite the same. A psychologist treats a patient through psychotherapy helping to relieve signs through behavioral change while the role of a psychiatrist focuses more on prescribing medication to patients and other interventions to manage mental health conditions.
As there is various type of psychology that serve different drives, there is no stable way of defining them, but there are some common types. Though equally, clinical psychology and counseling psychology shares many functions, they vary in origin. The word clinical is depicted from the Greek word “Kline,” which means bed, which may reference providing treatment at a patient’s bedside. While the term counseling is also derived from the Greek word “consul ere,” which means advice (Hergenhahm 2009), clinical psychology incorporates science theory and practice to comprehend, foresee and relieve problems with adjustment disability and discomfort, it supports adaption adjustment and development and promotes individuals' wellbeing, it can help to understand and prevent psychologically caused distress and dysfunctions.
