1 What arguments were used to continue to keep Africans enslaved?
The continuous defenders of African slavery emerged to a challenge that abolitionists had enacted. These defenders of African slavery included religion, economics, social good, and humanitarianism. As a result, they developed arguments that continuously kept the Africans enslaved. One of the major arguments was that the sudden end of African slavery would lead to a profound killing of the economy since the resilience of labor that the enslaved Africans provided was the core foundation of the economic growth (YouTube, n.d). Another argument was that if the enslaved Africans were freed, there could be a rapid spread of unemployment and chaos that would contribute to bloodshed and even anarchy. In addition, there was an argument that this institution was divine, and it emerged as a result of Christianity (YouTube, n.d). According to this argument, they considered slavery good, which facilitated the Africans' enslavement. The arguments further illustrated that compared to the poor people who lived in Europe and their workers, the enslaved Africans were cared for in a better manner and therefore, they could be protected by their owners when sick and aged, unlike the poor people in Europe.
2 What was the role of Black soldiers and people in the Civil War?
During the civil war, there was a reconsideration of the black men joining the war by president Abraham Lincoln after a clear indication that the war could not end soon.
