Development of the American Political Systems
America has gone through lots of decision making to come up with the political systems it has today. During the process, crucial decisions were to be made to build up the type of government that country was going to live in. The Americans were optimistic that their government would not use the oppressions and that there would be no high taxations laws as well as abuse of the civil rights. The American founding fathers also believed that through the democratic process, they will be able to participate in the decision-making process to even help in representations of the key interests. This implies that people of America wanted to live in what it is called a democratic government where people have equal chances to air their grievances (Hofstadter, 1965).
In making America what it is today, there were two important documents that were able to supplement each other. These were the Constitution and the Articles of Confederation. The constitution, however, was more democratic system than the Article of Federations. In early 1770’s, the liberation from the British Government came to an end as the American gain their own power. When the first American government came to power, there was great concern whether to have state institutions and make the states semi-autonomous or to have a centralized system of government (McKay, 2013). A plan to develop a union also came in during the error, and a document was adopted by the Congress to help establish the Article of Confederations that came in effect in 1781. The Congress also developed the Article of Confederations for the States that were independent which later led to the American Revolutions.
The United States Articles of Confederation contained in it some crucial flaws even through it was meant to fight for the country's revolutionary wars. The Confederation, for example, had no power of national taxation, no power to control trade as well as providing a comparatively weak executive. This implies that the Article of Confederations could not enforce the laws. Some people referred to it as a "league of friendship "because as it opposed the national authority. Another Major weakness for the Articles of Confederations is that it had no direct origin in the people because it only recognized the sovereignty of the state. It gave most of the state the powers to collect revenues, provide its militia and issue out their currencies.
