On September 11, 2001, 19 terrorist loyal to the extremist organization al-Qaeda hijacked four United States planes and executed deadly attacks by force flying into the Twin towers in New York city killing thousands of people. It marked one of the fatal terrorist attacks performed in soils of the United States thus the then head of state George W. Bush declared war against terror and urged the entire world to offer support in the fight against the extremist groups. Four days later the Russian president Vladimir Putin supported the United States in the war against terrorism. It was an unexpected move; thus it created a good bond between Russian and the United States. Since the end of World War II, Russian and the United States had been in constant disagreements over many policies due to a war of superiority between the two dominant nations.
The Russian president's move was not merely on supporting the United States in the war against terrorism around the world but a move to quench the resistance of the Chechnyan rebel's determination to fight for their liberation from the Russian rule. Through the propaganda of terrorism, Putin waged war against the rebel groups thus leading to a significant bloodbath of innocent individuals in Chechnya. In the wake of all these human rights violations, the United States turned a blind eye to the inhuman activities that were taking place in Chechnya. In the move to retain the excellent relationship that Russia had established with the United States, President Bush ignored the inhuman activities that were undertaken by the Russian authorities in Chechnya.
