Fort Ticonderoga is an interesting part of Vermont history. It was discovered by explores Samuel De Champlain a Frenchman, and Henry Hudson an Englishman. This fort is rich in amazing history revolving around the French, British and Americans CITATION KGo16 \l 1033 (Gould, 2016). Initially, this fort was constructed by the French who carefully designed, an impregnable fort in the shape of a star, ensuring that its inhabitants were able to spot and cross fire any attackers who dared climb its 40 ft tall walls. They also placed 100 heavy cannons which could fire as far as three miles reaching the Lake Champlain CITATION PWa13 \l 1033 (Way, 2013).
In 1758, the French proved the efficiency of Fort Ticonderoga by fighting off 1500 British soldiers with its army of only 4000 soldiers. Tables, however, turned a year later in 1759 when British commander Jeffery Amherst was able to capture the fort renaming it, Fort Ticonderoga though it was formally known as Fort Carillon CITATION PWa13 \l 1033 (Way, 2013). At this time, the British proceeded the charter as many towns as they could between 1759-1761. New York however objected the attempt of British sheriffs to claim their land and turned to Ethan Allen who formed the Green Mountain Boys who served as the people’s protectors against the British.
