Freedom of speech in the United States of America is a right for every individual, corporate, associations, and movements. However, on 21st January 2010, the highly-ranked court in U.S (U.S Supreme court) made a ruling that restricted corporations and unions from using treasury fund for political advertising which many law experts argued that the freedom of speech was violated. The 2010 ruling rendered the McCain-Feingold Act (section 203) invalid raising a heated debate on the campaign finance law and the freedom of speech and expression. The historic 2010 ruling was hailed by many citizens as the victory for freedom of speech while others were against the ruling as the ruling was trying to rewrite the famous campaign finance law. Barack Obama the former president of the United States of America was one of the many leaders who criticized the ruling on basis that it conflicts the campaign finance law and the presidential candidates should be allowed to spend without limit in elections.
