Causes of Poverty in Africa
Poverty refers to a condition whereby individuals or communities lack the necessary materials and financial resources to withstand a minimum standard of living. Poverty dominates almost the entire continent of Africa (Omomowo, 2018). This means that people who live there earn a very low income, making it impossible to meet their basic needs such as clean water, healthy food, good medical attention, and proper housing. African nations share many characteristics, such as over-reliance on the agriculture sector and a huge number of individuals in rural areas, and they have experienced European colonization (Omomowo, 2018). However, the paper keenly discusses the major triggers of poverty in African countries, such as corruption, natural disaster, conflict, and misuse of funds.
Corruption has caused an extremely high level of poverty in African countries. World anti-corruption has conducted several surveys on African nations and revealed very high corruption incidences in this continent (Omomowo, 2018). About 42 percent of the interviewed respondents endorsed that bribery is given to be employed. Examples
