Impeachment has been a very controversial topic in various states and nations across the world. To many people an impeachment comes as light at the end of a tunnel. To others, an impeachment is a stepping stone to political anarchy and oppression. The aftermath of any impeachment solely relies on the grounds upon which the whole act of impeachment preceded. Impeachment can be defined as the process by which a person in power such as federal officials or civil servants is charged with improper conduct or criminal activity. Impeachment is a legal process that is initiated to remove legitimate authority from power through legal mechanisms so as to avert disunity among the citizens of a nation. (Raoul, 1974)
Over time, the impeachment topic as a whole has sparked up conversations and debates. These debates and conversations aim at gaining an in-depth understanding of the mechanics that move the wheels. Some view impeachment as a legal framework while others view it as a political battleground. For sure, all perspectives are true. The major aspect that aids determine the legality of any attempt or act of impeachment is the intent and grounds upon which the process is treaded on. Some impeachments majorly aim at maliciously incapacitating a certain person in authority. While in some case, an impeachment can be tabled so as to prevent further damage to the public image and national unity.
The most popular instance of impeachment can be dated back into the 1860s in America. President Andrew Johnson was impeached because of charges on improper conduct that were deemed as a threat to national unity. Most of the people who were pro-impeachment, were of the view that he was going against what the great nation of America was founded upon. For instance, President Johnson was against the Blacks ascending to power since he was a White Supremacist. He felt that the Blacks would make the whites become inferior in the even that they would ever ascend to power. It was during his tenure as a president the Ku-Klux-Klan (KKK) group was prominent.
