The Second World War or World War Two (WWII) commenced in 1939 and ended in 1945. It remains listed as the greatest and deadliest war in the world’s entire history because it was fought on a global scale. Combined civilian and military casualties across the world were approximated at ninety million (Smith, 2017). Broad political, social, and economic consequences arose from the war. While some were immediate with short-lived effects, others have continued to affect today’s generations in various ways. Two political examples of such consequences include the division of Korea and the creation of the state of Israel.
Before the war, Korea had been ruled by the Empire of Japan for thirty years. At the end of the war, Japan was defeated, and the victory of the Allied powers deprived it of Korea as a colony.
