The American Revolution has captured the attention over the history of the world that finds the definition of Freedom and Liberty framed in different versions. Apparently, the terms are used interchangeably with meanings drawn from separate angles. The book “Give Me Liberty” and “Voice of Freedom: A Documentary” share a great sense on what Freedom and Liberty meant in the purview of the religion, economics, society and politics at the time. For instance, the Quaker liberty informed on freedom and liberty as framed around the understanding of equality for all people including the Indiana, Blacks and women (Foner 100). This was accompanied by the comparison drawn from the free society around. At the time, slaves could live the rest of their live on chains with silent complaints calling for freedom and liberty among them. Through the war of 1812, the discussion will share on different meanings of freedom and liberty, the difference in regard to ethnicity, sex, race and the social class, the overtime changes realized across the group and the scope of freedom and ideas of liberty appreciated as part of the American character.
Freedom and liberty are different terms but used interchangeably in most cases. Freedom carries the political sense where the preliminary is grounded on the fact of being released from the oppression as well as coercion. It also portrays the absentia of life conditions that puts a mark of compulsion. In the book of “Give Me Liberty” the meaning of freedom is expressed through the transition of the black community and the observation of the free society at the time (Foner 143).
