French Renaissance Era.
The French Renaissance was the cultural and artistic movement that happened in France during the period between 15th and 17th centuries. According to Wikipedia, the word renaissance is a French word which means “rebirth” in English when translated. The word was first used by a French historian Jules Michelet in 1855 in his book Histoire de France (History of France) as the artistic and cultural “rebirth” of Europe.
It is noted that renaissance didn’t happen overnight. It was gradual and caused by several factors.
Rana, V. (2015). Renaissance in Europe: Meaning, Causes and Results of Renaissance states that the fall of Constantinople was the main cause of Renaissance. It served as the center of learning. People used to read and learn. This caused the spread of knowledge that led to great thinking and rise of intellectuals and scientists. When the French invaded Italy in the late 15th century, they came into contact with the goods and paintings of the Italian Renaissance. Even the initial artistic changes in France were often carried out by Italians like Jean Clouet, Rosso Fiorentino and Leonardo da Vinci who were great painters. (Wikipedia). Other causes of Renaissance included the discovery of printing press, patronage rulers, popes and nobles, trade and prosperity. (Selfstudyhistory, 2016).
