Hunger has become a problem of concern in the Washington States. In the States, nearly one out of every seven households struggles with hunger. Family members have limited access to, or inability to buy nutritionally adequate and safe food. The government, movements, and agencies are in the front line to create hunger awareness in the states as well as digging for a permanent solution to the problem. For an in-depth understanding of the issue, the paper will discuss hunger awareness in Washington states.
Hunger is really in the Washington States, and people are adopting different coping strategies to reduce the effects of starvation. For instance, research is showing that there may be scrapping off of the National Breakfast week, and implement school breakfast which will only be in public schools, and public chartered school. The program reduces child hunger as well as improves child diet. The breakfast also helps to improve attendance of the children, reduce behavior problems hence promote learning.
Households with kids in the Washington States are the most experiencing the worst food hardship. Despite improvements in the economy, the majority of the children in the Washington States are struggling against hunger. A survey study found that one in one in every four households with children in the States experience food hardship more than double of their counterparts CITATION Mic13 \l 1033 (MichaelK, 2013).
The government is working hard to educate people on how they can reduce hunger by preserving the limited food they have. Food safety is a critical component because the food might be available but not fit for human consumption. That will mean, even the households with children will end up being infected with foodborne illnesses thus contributing to a severe problem. Scholars emphasize that one way of doing away with hunger is looking for measures to eradicate the problem. Government agencies play an important role in reducing hunger through adopting measures to enhance food safety.
Foodborne illness attributed to some factors if well controlled will result in reducing hunger. Statistics are showing that over 48 million Americans are affected by foodborne illnesses exposing them to hunger because the available food is not fit for human consumption CITATION Sas13 \l 1033 (Sasha, 2013). The common micro-organisms that contaminate foods are virus and bacteria. The problem is also widespread in the Washington States because the place is food insecure.
Food contamination is one of the factors contributing to hunger in the Washington States. According to Hunter (2013) Norovirus commonly known as stomach flu cause foodborne illness such stomach cramp and diarrhea because of consuming contaminated food. It is estimated to infect 21 million American hence it has become a public health concern as it survives in a dry environment as opposed to other viruses.
