Modernism came to exist in the 20th century and became prominent after the World War II and the time, their prominent figures of the movement that had developed their reputation. However, the movement gained fame after the World War II when the modernist architect came into implementation as an alternative to the past planning and architect failures to attain the basic needs. In the 1930s, most of the people residing in the urban areas were residing in poor states, and the issue of slum problems was among the issues for the past ten years. Modernist design became famous and was used as an alternative to the issues. However, the organization could not effectively outdo and cover the social needs of families and society and thus, most of the modernist constructions were destroyed in the 1970s. With reference to industrialization studies, it is the idea of this essay to discuss how the modern architecture came to change the living conditions in Europe with examples from various countries.
Most of the new design projects were positively accepted and the public started to relate the success with the strong aesthetic with the prosperity and progress. After the world wars, it was expected that the architectures and their powerful sense of social mandate would raise the living conditions of people. One of the successful projects is Byker Housing project in Newcastle. Byker started as a rural residence until the 19th century when the superior kinds of residence in the employed population were the Tyneside apartment. The status in these apartments was poor and the residents in these areas experienced problems of overcrowding, unhygienic sanitation and lack of wealth. Byker was identified for its traits and superiority of the relationships in the region. The architectural team was strategic in retaining the sense of the community and in this respect; Byker became the major efforts in Britain to implement a communication between the people and designers (Murray, 2007).
