All nations need an official national language to be used by the government in running all the affairs regarding the country. It is the official language that is applied during communications within the government and to its citizens. There has been a debate over the years on whether English should be America’s official language or not because it has lacked one for a long time. An official language has a legal status that makes it special to that country and this means that it is recognized as the only language used in official matters of that particular country (Brice, 2014). Unfortunately, the Unites States lacks one language that is recognized by the government as the official one. This fact is ironical since one would assume that America as one of the well-developed countries has an official national language. The main reason for the lack of an official language in the US is the presence of citizens from diverse lingual backgrounds.
