While hominids lost most of their body fur and their intelligence bulked up, humans are evolutionarily different from other gorillas. Most percentage of our DNA segment matches those of Chimpanzees (Lovejoy, 2009). Beyond appearances, scientists have found a surprising number of humanlike behaviors experienced by our ape descendants.
Primates have four limbs just like the human beings. Although most of the time, the mandrills use all the four limbs when moving but occasionally use the legs (Slocombe, 2011).
On the other hand, human beings walk upright on a daily basis except a young child who has not developed the hind quarters that crawl. This human trait only makes hominid unique among primates. Secondly, primates just like people use tools. Primates modify natural objects to get food and even use them for hunting.
Human beings also modify tools and use even tools to make other tools. For instance, a hammer is used to make a bed, fence and other things. The ability of the human beings to use the implements to make other outfits for various purposes makes them unique primates (Slocombe, 2011). Thirdly, most non-human primates live in social groups just the same as human beings. For example, Chimpanzees socialize and interact as they grow up. The primary difference that makes the hominid unique is that their interaction is more complex than that of primates. They socialize at each level of their life as they grow, learn, and play.
Primarily primates used to communicate. Hominid ancestors also communicated. However, the monkeys would use gestures and sounds to communicate though their sounds were not developed and would make meaning to their fellow primates of the same species (Schaik, 2009).Furthermore, Gorillas, Orangutans and Chimpanzees can learn sign language. This behavior was shared with the human ancestors although they had rich and advanced vocals that had meaning to other anthropoids.
Finally, in comparison of the primate’s behavior and the ancestors it poses a great idea on the several characteristics they share and are common. They have aggressive motions that look like those of a human, blow, touch the clinch just like persons, and so the gestural selection appears remarkable human to us.
