Introduction
The annexation of Texas is a journey, well- articulated by Joel Sibley in his book, Storm over Texas. Joel argues that not only did the annexation of Texas lead to wrangles and division among political leaders, policymakers and the general public, it also progressively led to the American civil war and Mexican-American War. Among the many issues that are brought forth in the book, this essay will focus on giving a full discourse on how the annexation of Texas changed the history of America and revealed the congressional limits regarding various moral issues.
When Texas began, it was a territory where Stephen Austin wanted to begin an American Colony on Spanish land. After much convincing, Austin was able to convince the Americans to grant him the lands he needed. The union of Texas was born. Texas was dominated by those who supported slaver labor and wanted to utilize it to grow their economy since Mexico had abolished slavery in 1825 (Silbey,25). Much of the population was from slaveholders who brought their slaves with them. By 1830, slaves approximately 5000 slaves were being brought into Texas daily. However, a large number of liberal non-slaveholders Americans settled in the region. As the population of American settler increased in Mexico, Mexico instilled regulatory laws
