The major difference between a federal and unitary government is that in a federal government, power is decentralized into federal and local governing bodies connecting to the national government while in a unitary government, power is centralized to the government and very little political power exists outside the central government. The United States of America operates under a federal government structure. The goal of the founders was clear whereby liberty would be protected. There was a fear that bestowing power on few individuals would concentrate it and cause a tyranny. This essay will compare and contrast the governmental structure of the United States and the nations with a unitary government.
