The advancement and proliferation of technology over the last few decades have seen the cumulation of massive amounts of information referred to as “big data.” The data is either user-generated or as a remnant of actions performed using technological devices. The vast information can include text, audio, videos, and social activity. According to Gandomi and Haider (2015), abundant data is considered to have high volume, variety, and velocity, which requires an array of advanced techniques to not only capture but use. Due to this nature of abundant data, it’s worth and potential is only unlocked through efficient processes that can induce decision making. Therefore, big data has become an essential tool in decision making for many governments and organizations. Thus, in this article, the algorithms, architecture, and applications of big data will be discussed.
