According to Noddings (2016), ethics defends and recommends the concepts of right and wrong conduct. By outlining concepts as right and wrong, good and bad, vice and virtue, the field of ethics pursue to resolve the demands of morality. Ethics can relate to a specific (professional) group or the general public. Therefore, ethics provides us with a moral path that we can use to find a way under challenging issues.
Sometimes, individuals are overwhelmed with several ethical dilemmas when making day to day decisions on the welfare of others and even themselves. In determining whether something is moral, one should incorporate the five principles of ethical decision making. Ethical choices are backed up by the facts that dictate ethical rules, policies, and theories in a particular situation. Ethical practices provide a basis of moral justification. For instance, professional organizations such as the American College Personnel Association (ACPA) provides a published set of standards that its members are expected to abide by, failure to which member can be termed unethical. However, ethical rules do not provide enough guidance for the many dilemmas professionals face (Woiceshyn, 2011, pp. 311-323). For example, Doctors have ethical standards that govern their exercise of duty. Although abortion is unethical to be promoted, doctors may prefer abortion in an emergency to save the life of the mother. Ethical rules might not dictate what a doctor is supposed to do in such dilemmas.
