Firing is considered the most significant punishment given to employees by their employers; therefore, it should be only reserved for capital offenses committed by the employees. The offenses that permit firing include physical assault, sexual harassment, theft, and breaking the core company rules. Minor mistakes committed by employees should only attract warnings or suspensions and not direct firing. However, continuous warnings to an unchanging employee could attract a hefty punishment based on the companies guidelines and policies. Minor mistakes only internally affect workers within the working environment(Dong et al, 2021). Any mistake that directly impacts most externals' company image is severe and will attract serious punishment like immediate sacking.
Among the four employees in question, one was fired on the grounds of breaking two rules, the first one which would not have led to his sacking was clowning around and singing silly and raunchy songs that do not promote the company's goals, the second mistake was going further and posting it on social media. Posting the video on social media showed other people how disorganized and lackluster the company is internal. It is selling a bad image to the public. It tarnishes its image to other people who may not have been in the company. Therefore, his dismissal is valid(Bao et al, 2019). The employee's intent may have been fun, but its dent on the company is unforgivable. It also serves as a lesson to other employees who may consider involving themselves in such uncalled-for behaviors.
Three other employees clowning around and singing silly and raunchy songs are guilty of a single mistake that does not impose direct firing. The mistake they made was dancing and doing silly things while wearing the companies attire. As seen from the video posted by the sacked employee, they were inside the company, where they should be conducting themselves professionally. They should be given a stern warning against such behavior in the future. The harshest punishment given to the three employees is suspension for a specified period, like one month, and then return to work(Huang et al, 2018). Still, they should not be fired since their intent was only to have fun, although they were doing it at the wrong place, unlike the other employee's intent to destroy the company's image to other people.
In conclusion, decisions made by a human resource manager in any company are based on many factors. There is no uniform way these rules should be applied since the circumstances of the offense are also a
