Getting into any career requires that an individual possesses some competencies and capabilities. The workplace today is competitive, making it vital for each employee to have capabilities and competencies that match the job position they are applying for. This will enable the employee to gain a competitive advantage and perform well in the chosen position. This essay will analyze my capabilities and competencies and then use these to create SMART goals and develop a detailed action plan for my industry placement at the Star Gold Coast, where I worked in housekeeping. The capability I will discuss here is teamwork, and the competency is professional ethics.
The Star Gold Coast is a hotel and casino located on the Gold Coast in Australia. It started officially in February 1986 and is owned by Star Entertainment Group. The hotel has 592 rooms, and that is where my work in housekeeping comes in. In the hotel, my role in housekeeping is to ensure the rooms for the guests are clean and neat when the day starts. The cleanliness of a hotel is of great importance to the hotel because it can either make or break a business. Housekeepers have to prepare the cart and strip the room by removing all the towels and linens for laundry. I am also expected to remove the garbage and replace it with a clean one. They also make beds, clean the bathroom, dust the rooms, do finishing touches, as well as other activities aimed at keeping the rooms clean (“A Step by Step Breakdown of Hotel Housekeeping”).
As an individual and an employee, I have my strengths and weaknesses that help me to function in my specific job area. These
