In recent years, the issue of globalization, internationalization, and integration of economies has continued to spur much debate because of the impact they have on world economies. Indeed, there has been a growing concern over the adoption of the best practices and their effect on convergence of employment systems (Ronnmar 2008). There is consensus that, at the industry level, to increase competitiveness and flexibility, uniformity of employment relations has become a necessity (Leat 2012). However, literature also points to divergence of practices because of unique circumstances such as a county’s culture, economic development, behavioural mindsets, and other diversity challenges across the EU (Gennard and Judge 2005). This paper will evaluate the convergence theory in light of recent literature and explore the different viewpoints on the subject.
