Leadership is one of the most critical aspects of the success of any organization. Life Science Nutraceuticals, Inc. (LSN) is no exception, and therefore it is important to examine the different facets of the organization as well as explore the characteristics of an effective leadership system. Marvel came up with life science products and has since become a renowned manufacturer of healthy products that are natural. One factor that has contributed to the immense growth of the LSN Company is that they set its goals on a three years term plan which is effective in helping the company’s leadership to understand the ever-changing customer preferences. This paper seeks to explore leadership within LSN and the essential skills and knowledge that a leader needs in LSN in the present as well as in the future.
Leadership paradigms have changed over the years. Unlike in the past, when leaders would do everything literally, today, leaders put their followers first. There are various character traits that a servant leader should possess. They include thinking of what one can do for his or her employees instead of asking them what they can do for you. An effective leader would think of the ways that he or she can implement to relieve employees of stress and protect them from unnecessary pressure.
Moreover, an effective leader helps his employees to achieve their goals by learning about them and what values they possess. The leaders should study their abilities, skills, knowledge, and scope of competence so that they can allocate them tasks that they are capable of accomplishing (Manion, 2015). For a leader in LSN, one needs to be humble and understand that one can never know everything. For instance, Marvel would get advice from his mother, and he did that because he understood that a leader does not possess all answers. Being open with employees can go a long way in involving them so that they participate in major problem-solving projects.
The case of Ken's employees is one example of how a leader can be a source of demotivation to employees. His employees complain that he is so secretive until when deadlines are due, and then he keeps pressuring the employees to complete tasks. Secondly, they complain that Ken acts as a perfect leader, and they are scared because he always yells at them whenever they make a mistake. Thirdly, Ken micromanages his employees, and they feel anxious when he watches over them like a hawk.
Various explanations would be given for Ken’s behavior and style of leadership. Ken might be the kind of leader who operates within the traditional leadership system that puts a leader at the top of others. However, Ken might apply these recommendations to improve the situation with his subordinates. First, Ken should understand his personality traits and work on them so that he can be able to interact with others (Malos, 2012). Secondly, Ken can keep a journal of his successes and failures so that he can begin working on the weak areas through constant review of how he performs his job. Thirdly, one should understand the power of his words. He should understand that words shape reality and cease yelling at employees, as well as check how he describes people and the situations at hand.
