Assignment in Leadership Development at a Glance Course (Essay Sample)

Instructions:

This task was the third of five assignments in the Leadership Development at a Glance course, which was designed to teach students about leadership styles. The assignment was worth 5% of the overall course grade. Our goal with this task was to identify which leadership style we ourselves would most prefer. To do this we had to complete two versions of a "personal reflection" writing prompt: one for each style. We were asked to reflect on what strengths each style brought with it and where that strength could be applied in our personal lives or professional life in order for us to grow as a leader or leader among fellow peers. I also reflected on the leadership skills demonstrated the U.S. president Trump which I did through the lens of both his candidacy and his presidency.

The website outlines ten leadership styles often adopted by leaders. I prefer transformational leadership. I regard the style as the best in achieving success effectively. Firstly, I believe that goals and objectives are achieved when articulated to employees. Ensuring employees are updated with tasks that need to be done creates a sense of commitment that is vital to any group work. Also, transformational leadership involves engaging employees in the setting of goals. I strongly believe in engaging employees the setting of deliverables, as the surest way of creating a sense of being in family (Indeed, 2020). Workers feel obligated to meet goals they cooperatively set with their seniors. Lastly, transformational leadership encourages employee motivation. As a leader, I am obliged to psyche and motivate my employees to work wholeheartedly. Further, I dislike supervising workers. Appealing like I am forcing a worker to do something they do not like kills group morale. Thus, giving employees a reason to work and continue executing their mandate gets work done effectively. In other words, transformational leadership not only enhance rapport between employees and their seniors, but also encourages hard-work and self-drive.
