Marriott International Human Resource Strategy
Different companies come up with different HR strategies to suit their goals and objectives. One of these strategies is the hiring of new employees. Sometimes, this is the stickiest strategy to develop since if not done in the right way can result in huge losses for the organization due to not having the best of the best employees working for the institution. It is, therefore, necessary that the human resource strategies involving any job opportunities and hiring be done in a way that encourages the best people in a specific industry to go hunting for a job. One of the institutions that have developed a unique HR strategy is Marriott International. Marriott International manages its human resource globally and even locally. This is one of the reasons why the franchise has been so successful in the hospitality sector. This essay discusses the different ways and the reasons why the franchise decided to manage its Human Resource.
Marriott International is a franchise in the hospitality industry and as such has the need to develop a good HR strategy. In the hospitality industry, a good HR strategy means that a specific institution thinks globally but acts locally. Marriot has developed a good HR strategy where it manages its human resource instead of outsourcing the Human Resource. This move is advantageous since the franchise can be able to track the growth of each employee since their entry into the franchise. Additionally, Marriott International seeks to develop each employee through training and make them feel responsible for their actions (D'Annunzio-Green, Maxwell & Watson, 2004). Developing each employee individually and creating this responsibility is paramount since it goes a long way in improving the customer service delivery by each employee. Therefore, managing their human resource has been advantageous for the franchise instead of outsourcing another firm to manage the human resource.
Marriott International manages its human resource in different ways through the different strategies that it has. The first strategy is the recruiting of its employees. Marriott recruits its employees through their website. Each employee signs up to the website and from here, they can access the application form. From here, they then upload their resumes which are reviewed by the Human Resource department. Another strategy employed is the training of the new recruits. The company trains new employees in the form of hands-on practice in the hotels and even through hours in class. This training equips these employees with the knowledge that they need to improve their service delivery to customers (Prashanth, 2004). Lastly, the most fundamental strategy by Marriott International is the role that they play in the local economic development of the country that they operate. Part of their strategy includes recruiting local people to work in their hotels hence such a move actively builds the capability of each nation that they operate economically. The franchise in collaboration with International Partnership’s Youth Career Initiative has enabled the growth of more than 1000 youth that has been...
