For a body to overcome various pathological conditions, it employs different mechanisms. In some cases, such processes cause diseases. That is the reason why some patients might feel sick after they experience the outcome of adaptive responses. Notably, adaptive responses help the body to be restored in its normal condition by countering, avoiding, or resisting harmful effects from the environment. Health professionals determine the pathological conditions by analyzing the mechanisms that a sick person’s body uses as a response. Jennifer, a 2-year-old female, has a fever, swollen lymph nodes, sore throat, tonsils, restlessness, and hypertension. That explains why Jennifer’s heart rate is high. High blood pressure alters the normal functioning of the body in various ways (Huether & McCance, 2017). For instance, when more blood passes through the vessels, it makes them enlarge to offer the large volume required. Therefore, one of the adaptive responses that the body of hypertensive patients employ is vasodilation. That is the reason why Jennifer has reddened tympanic membranes. Another mechanism that Jennifer’s body responds to high blood pressure is the drying of the skin as it enables her to lower the temperature. Consequently, the patient’s body has adapted respective mechanisms to restore to its normal functioning condition.
