Introduction
Some of the causes of chronic diseases that affect a large number of adults come as a result of traumatic or bad and poor quality of childhood. Recent research, including several works published in the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), confirm that when listing the causes of chronic diseases such as diabetes, asthma, arthritis, cancer, hypertension, and others, bad childhood development should be one of them. Mock & Arai (2011) argues that many chronic diseases are caused by experiencing traumatic events that had occurred in an individual’s childhood. The authors support their claim using data from the Canadian Community Health Survey which was conducted in 2005 looking into a life course of an adult’s mental health and their socioeconomic status (Mock and Susan 246). These two factors are used in partially showing a relationship between an individual’s childhood and their adulthood. The quality of childhood development is dictated by how well a child was raised, which is dependent on traumatic and stressing experiences, nutrition and balanced diet, exposure to drugs and substance, environmental cleanliness, access to clean water, and more, which could affect childhood development.
