The tendency to recall the first information received better than any other information presented later is a phenomenon known as the primacy effect. It is a cognitive bias that takes place in various ways. When a person is required to recall items from a list of entries, they will recall items at the top of the list better than items at the middle and end. The primacy effect helps people remember information they first encounter better than information provided later (Rey et al., 2020). For instance, companies utilize the cognitive bias in the primacy effect by using printing advertising, internet, radio, and television to provide people with the first impression of a product before it is even available in the market. In addition, the same technique is used by news stories such as movie previews or phone releases to incenticize positive product information first. The paper discusses and reflects on the concept of primacy effect including its impact on memory.
Moreover, the reason a person recalls the first information is because the message is stored in the long-term memory. Information stored in the long-term memory is easily remembered than information stored in the short-term memory. In this case the first items from a list of entries enter the long-term memory while items at the middle and end enter the short-term memory (Fourakis & Cone 2020). It fundamental to understand the
