This paper will give a clear relation to drug usage and sports participation especially among the young generation, that is those between fourteen to twenty-five years of age. Different reasons can cause an elite athlete to go for drugs. These reasons may differ according to a particular context or situation. Both sportswomen and sportsmen are involved in drug abuse. There have been various arguments by different authors about the usage of drugs and sports participation. Some argue that socio-economic factors are deeply associated with the relationship between drugs and sport.
Furthermore, a study was done in Mauritius to shade more light on this argument within the young population. In the study, there was a prediction of less use of drugs and negative perception towards drug abuse among youth in Mauritius and their sport participation. The issue of drug abuse and sports participation is associated with negative effects and other side effects. These effects consist of serious health problems which can affect the sport performance to an elite athlete
