Furthermore, it entails an individual's ability to their emotions to enable them to overcome various environmental and life challenges.
Critical components of emotional intelligence
Emotional awareness
Emotional awareness refers to the ability to know when feelings are present within ourselves and others. Ultimately, it is being able to foresee feelings and emotions before it occurs. A perfect example of emotional awareness is an individual’s ability to accept critics and responsibility. Moreover, it is about having the ability to accept the outcomes of a mistake, being able to feel how others feel, and being able to reject things when one needs to. There are two types of self-awareness. For instance, private self-awareness is when an individual is aware of something about themselves that others are unaware of, while public self-awareness is when the people know how the public sees them.
Self-regulation
Self-regulation is an individual’s ability to control and manage their emotions by controlling their inner assets. It entails the ability to control one's behavior and actions. It helps people learn, behave well, become independent and get along well with others. Self-regulations start to develop swiftly during childhood and preschool years. Self-regulation involves various strategies such as self-monitoring, goal setting, self-talk, effective use of self-instructions, and self-reinforcements. The types of self-regulation include environmental, personal, and behavioral self-regulation.
Those with decent self-regulation can acclimate properly to fluctuating circumstances. It is rare for them to fail emotionally. For instance, they know the suitable methods to express their emotions instead of responding thoughtlessly. People with high emotional intelligence also have sturdy social skills. Because they are skillful at spotting other people's sentiments, they can reply suitably to the situation. People also value social skills at the workplace since it is essential for healthier communication and affirmative business ethos. Workers and managers with outstanding social skills can shape relationships with contemporaries and effectively connect their ideas. Socially skilled people are great group performers, and can effectively execute their roles.
Self-motivation
Self-motivation is a person’s ability to drive themselves to initiate specific actions to achieve their goals. It is what pushes an individual to take action and complete tasks. Examples of self-motivation are working harder than others, taking ownership of problems, learning new skills, and becoming team leaders. Self-motivation is achieved by setting a goal and working towards achieving it (Miao, Humphrey& Qian, 2018). It also involves tracking your progress, rewarding yourself for little and big wins
