Abstract
All human beings thrive on the feeling of affection as well as belonging that originate from having supportive and caring families. The quality of family relationships is more important to human beings than the composition and size of the entire family. The major keys to healthy relationships include having a sense of belonging and the maintenance of strong family ties. The need to feel included is a part of human beings and is also important to good mental health as well as mental health. Every human being requires an opportunity to express his or her personal agency and creativity. Having an understanding that one is accepted with a sense of belonging to the family is important to any person’s happiness and well being as it leads to the development of positive identities. Effective family ties combined with a sense of belonging lays the foundation for a resilient and strong sense of self which is sustained through different transitions into the wider world as well as subsequent experiences that are less inclusive and affirming.
Introduction
The themes of immigration, family, belonging, home, gender, sexuality, and race are important as they help people to effectively connect with each other. For example, the sense of belonging can be described as the need to be considered by other people in positive ways (Allen, Kelly-Ann & Margaret, 6).
