Pursuing a major in human services has been an incredible journey this far. I have found great passion and enthusiasm in all aspects of my learning period, which I can describe as a journey of self-discovery. From challenges in learning a new language to participating in a mentoring activity at Future Giants, I feel that my growth curve is on the right path. At this point, I am grateful for having chosen to pursue a major in human services because I have gained theory and practice through activities and tests. As an evolving learner, I have discovered that I should strive to stretch my limits if it works to benefit my dreams and to put effort into all aspects. In detail, global and thematic pathways expanded my reasoning and focus on the world, while learning French and visual communication equipped me with the skills to pursue my dreams. This paper details my experience to this moment.
When I joined the University at Buffalo, I hoped to continue with my academic valor to help me steer toward my dreams because my parents emphasized the importance of education when I was growing up. While this personal objective burned inside, I found passion in helping others excel in their career paths and the hope to achieve their dreams. Moreover, growing up in a neighborhood with much negativity, I embraced education and desired the same for my neighbors. Therefore, joining Future Giants for a mentoring program and working with three seniors complimented the Health and Human major. Learning visual communication equipped me with visual communication strategies, such as data visualization. In particular, I had little confidence in presenting any information, and graduating by using tables, images, and graphical representation indicates work in progress. By the end of this course, I can present quantitative data and other visual instruments and write technically. In addition, I expanded my reasoning in numeracy, which boosted my visual communication. Furthermore, I have learned to develop emotional intelligence to present an event or topic. My goal now is to present information using data visualization and continue to practice writing visually and learning more techniques.

I chose the global and thematic pathways because I intended to explore how different cultures and countries benefit from better health care. This course offered exciting challenges with many interesting ideas, innovative approaches, and insightful research studies. In addition, by incorporating a thematic pathway into my learning process, I discovered that present-day issues such as racism affect future generations in hopes of having an inclusive environment to live in. The global pathway was an introduction course to French, sharpening my speaking and writing skills. So far, I have improved in listening, word comprehension, reading comprehension, and speaking skills.
