Importance of Becoming a Global Citizen
Introduction
Students in the 21st century live in a society that is interconnected, diversified, and constantly shifting. Growing economic, digital, cultural, sociological, and environmental trends are transforming the lives of young citizens in the world, intensifying their everyday intercultural interactions. According to the Week 1 Example Assignment Guide, I will emphasize and discuss the importance of global citizenship in this paper. A global citizen is conscious of and appreciates their responsibility in the world. They participate actively in their communities and collaborate to make the world a much more pleasant, sustainable, and equitable place to live (Stucke et al., 2009). As a result, global citizenship is critical since it enables young citizens to develop their awareness of global affairs.
Distinction Between “Globalism” and “Globalization”
Globalism differs from globalization in a way that it is an ideology founded on the notion that people, communication, and products need to be able to freely traverse national borders, whereas globalization is now the spread of technologies, products, communication, and employment between states (Millner, 2015). The keywords globalism and globalization appear to have similar definitions at first look; however, they are not the same thing. In other terms, globalization is the process of expanding interaction between individuals and places all over the world, whereas globalism seems to be the philosophy that drives it. At its most basic level, globalism tries to define and justify nothing but a world dominated by continental networks of interconnections. Globalization, on the other hand, corresponds to an increase or decrease in the level of globalization. It aims to identify the factors at work, and perhaps the dynamics or speed with which these changes occur.
How being a Global Citizen in the World of Advanced Technology Can Be Beneficial to My Success in Meeting Personal, Academic, And Professional Goals.
Currently, when technological technology is just the gateway to communication and also the basis of our knowledge, it can help me achieve my personal, academic, and professional objectives. We obtain the majority of our information by searching on the internet through various devices; therefore, this can lead to the discovery of new people with similar interests. Additionally, I can learn about other cultures by exploring the internet, which also will benefit me in my career. To create good connections, I need to be able to maintain an open channel of communication with an array of experiences. It applies to both my personal and academic objectives. Knowing and comprehending one's views and backgrounds will simplify my job making my customers feel more at ease. It is my responsibility to be mindful of the personal, academic, and professional well-being of others.
Disagreement between theorists about the definition of global citizenship.
Various disciplines have turned their attention to the theoretical aspects of global citizenship. In this case, controversies arose on the actual meaning of global citizenship. “Clearly defining the concept of global citizenship is problematic due to the usage of seemingly identical terminology to represent a superordinate sense of global identity,” according to (Millner, 2015). Philosophers have used the term in different ways and interchangeably. For example, other researchers associate the phrase with global and world citizenship, but other scholars propose that it is linked to social justice. Global citizenship remains to be misunderstood, owing to theorists' use of information from various disciplines and perceptions to define the concept. I would consider a global citizen as an individual who enjoys diversity, exercises responsibility, and therefore is eventually considerate, observant, and appreciates the wider world, including the many concepts taken from multidisciplinary debates and identifying interconnections.
Two Global Citizenship Outcomes
Intergroup empathy and valuing diversity seem to be the two fundamental outcomes of global citizenship according to my analysis. Whenever members of one group connect with the experiences and concerns of members of some other groups, this is known as intergroup empathy. Therefore, empathy is indeed a powerful word that has played an impo
