I write about the Older Workers Benefit Protection Act of 1990 (OWBPA) and how it helps workers suffering from mental illnesses. An important piece of legislation, the Older Workers Benefit Protection Act (OWBPA), protects workers over 40 against employment age discrimination.
I was interested in how laws and policies affect the workplace and workers' health and happiness. Many people suffer from mental health issues. Thus, businesses must understand how to assist their employees suffering from this.
Protecting older workers from discrimination and exploitation in the workplace is a pressing issue, making the OWBPA all the more pertinent (Carter, 2019). In addition, following the legislation, firms must offer older workers age-neutral perks, including early retirement opportunities. People with mental illness may benefit greatly from this, as they may require special assistance or accommodations at work.
I aim to learn more about how laws and policies may be used to promote equity and fairness in the workplace by researching the OWBPA and its effects on people with mental illness. To improve conditions for workers, it's important to recognize the contribution laws make to fostering a healthy workplace.
